About Georgia: The once member of the Russian Empire (Soviet Union), Georgia gained its independence in 1991. Under the former Soviet Union, Georgia was a favorite playground for the elite and the privileged because of its stunning scenery including a rich and diverse display of native flora and fauna, green valleys, waterfalls and mineral water. Tbilisi, the capital city, has a distinct Mediterranean feel with narrow and winding streets, and stone houses with vine-draped courtyards. While in Tbilisi take some time to experience Georgian heritage, culture and history at the Georgian State Museum, Georgian Museum of Arts and Museum of Ethnography. And spend time at the many Georgian World Heritage Sites: the old Georgian capital, Mtskheta where visitors can find the Jvari Monastery, Svetiskhoveli Cathedral and the Samtavro Monastery Complex; the Svanetian village of Ushguli with medieval houses and stone defense towers leaned against the backdrop of stunning mountain scenery.
